Hitching Post on Food Network

Popular Buellton restaurant, the Hitching Post, will be featured on the Food Network.

Iron Chef Cat Cora picked the Hitching Post two's " Oak Grilled Burger" for the episode of "The Best Thing I Ever Ate."

The show features famous food network chefs describing their favorite foods.

The Hitching Post Burger took about five years to perfect.

Owner Frank Ostini and burger creator, Jorge Alvarado will be on the show.

Ostini says, "So it was really quite a surprise when they called us to tell us Cat Cora has recommended this... We didn't know she had even been here... So it was a real surprise."

Alvardo adds, "I was like... Yeah!!!! Finally! You know, one of our recipes is finally making it to the food network channel ...

Valley Bistro Getting Rave Reviews

One reviewer says the new Valley Bistro at 290 Station Drive is serving Montecito-style food at Buellton prices.

The restaurant was opened by chefs Brooke Stockwell and Brianna Allen who both attended the Culinary Arts Program at Santa Barbara City College and worked together for several years as private chefs in Montecito.

The menu ranges from the Bistro Burger to tri-tip panini to fresh grilled steaks with salsa and aioli to Bistro Poppers made with candied jalapeno peppers.

The emphasis is gluten and dairy free, low-fat cuisine using fresh and organic products grown and sold locally paired with Central Coast wines.

Wednesday’s feature Farmers Market dinners with the menu made up of items the chefs find at the Solvang market.

Valley Bistro is open for lunch Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm and for dinner from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Sunday hours are 11:00 am to 5:00 pm

Mother Hubbard’s Invites Locavores

The owners of Mother Hubbard’s Restaurant are hosting their first Locavore Dinner on Saturday, February 27.

Locavore is a term used by people who only consume what is grown locally.

They claim locally-grown food is healthier, tastes better and is better for the environment.

Mother Hubbard’s plans to have Locavore Dinners four times a year during Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall to get people to think about where their food comes from.

Everything served will be fresh, seasonal, completely organic and local with the ingredients coming from within a 50-mile radius.

Beef will be grass-fed and free range with local wines to complement the food.

Seating is limited to between 25 and 30 people for the first dinner which will be about $35 per person.

Mother Hubbard’s Restaurant is at 373 Avenue of Flags.

Decadence in Buellton

A bakery in Buellton showed us how to make one of their most popular cakes for Valentine's day in this weeks edition of What's for Lunch. Decadence Cakes and Confections is known for making wedding cakes and petit fours. The work of owner and Pastry Chef Dawn Peters has been featured in Magazines including In Style and US Weekly, she's also made cakes for several celebrities. The Decadence cake is made with Flourless Chocolate cake, rasberry jam, Chocolate Mousse and a layer of chocolate butter cake and topped with Ganash. The Cake is decorated with fresh fruit and a personal message. Peters created the cake by accident while working at a resport in Arizona.

What has people drooling over Buellton?

For years, guests have drooled with delight when they contemplate a Buellton stop on Highway 101. After you've driven from Santa Barbara through the Gaviota Pass on Highway 101 going north, there are only one or two restaurants and no gas or hotel services until you arrive in Buellton. From Santa Maria, there are many restaurants you may have stopped at before arriving in Solvang.
