Library Becomes a Real Zoo

Submitted by Laurie
Tuesday, August 3rd, 3:26 pm

Dozens of hands flew into the air to answer the question of why snakes stick out their tongues.

“Because it’s how they smell,” said the child who was called upon during a Zoo to You presentation on the lawn of the Solvang Branch Library.

More than 50 children sat and listened intently to instructors as they presented various “animal ambassadors” that ranged from a bald eagle to a boa constrictor named Julius Squeezer.

The Zoo to You presentation was part of the Friends of the Library’s summer reading program, which began June 12 and continues through Thursday, Aug. 12, with the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Samala Dancers.
